VisitEngland’s Hotel of the Year Award

Our Stories
Seaham Hall

Five-star boutique hotel Seaham Hall, on Durham’s spectacular Heritage Coast, has been named Bronze Winner in VisitEngland’s prestigious Awards for Excellence 2018

Seaham Hall, a striking Georgian mansion house with just 21 individually-designed suites, is the Bronze Winner in VisitEngland’s keenly-awaited Awards for Excellence 2018, held this week in the exquisite 18th century Bath Assembly Rooms.

Rudding Park in Yorkshire received the Gold award; Lucknam Park in Wiltshire the Silver award.

Seaham Hall’s Managing Director, Ross Grieve, comments: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award. To be named as one of England’s three top hotels means so much to us at Seaham Hall. Both as individuals, and as a team, we are hugely proud of our excellent reputation, beautiful location, and the level of service we put our hearts into delivering each day.”

Located right on the coast and overlooking the sea, on a new 11-mile section of the England Coast Path, Seaham Hall boasts a 44,000 sq ft award-winning spa, connected to the hotel via a spectacular subterranean walkway. It is the only spa in the North to be classified as ‘Five Bubble Luxury’ by the Good Spa Guide. The Serenity Spa features a 20-metre pool, outdoor hot tubs, three new thermal rooms, 18 treatment rooms, plus a Pan-Asian restaurant.

The hotel’s elegant fine-dining restaurant, The Dining Room, is wonderfully warm and convivial, with a menu focused on delicious fresh local produce, and there is a 37-acre estate to explore.

The hotel has a fascinating history. Lord Byron’s wedding to Lady Annabella Milbanke took place in the Georgian mansion house in 1815.

Junior suite doubles cost from £195 (two sharing), including breakfast and full use of the spa from noon on the day of arrival to noon on the day of departure. Call Seaham Hall’s expert team on 0191 516 1400 to book, or visit www.seaham-hall.co.uk.

Seaham Hall is under three hours by train from central London, and by car is just 20 minutes from Durham, 40 minutes from Newcastle, 90 minutes from Edinburgh and less than three hours from Manchester. The hotel’s close proximity to Newcastle is also ideal for those travelling from international destinations, via Newcastle airport and/or the North East Ferry Port.

Seaham Hall is featured in Tripadvisor’s 2016 Travellers’ Choice Top 25 Small Hotels in the UK and Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the UK, and additional current accolades include Spa Manager of the Year in the Boutique Hotelier Awards, Editor’s Choice Spa in the Good Hotel Guide, Five Bubble Luxury accreditation by the Good Spa Guide, and Gold in ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ at the North East England Tourism Awards.
