Bike Week

Celebrate Bike Week with a cycle adventure!

Bike Week (10-18 June) aims to demonstrate the social, health and environmental benefits of cycling by encouraging more people to get on their bikes to travel to work or school, to see friends or just for fun.

Celebrate Bike Week by booking a two-wheeled adventure with challenge specialist, Discover Adventure, whose trips are graded from 1 to 5 in difficulty level, with ‘1’ achievably challenging and ‘5’ the most extreme. Participants can take on each adventure either as a purely personal challenge or as an opportunity to raise money for a charity of their choice.

2017 cycle challenges include:

London to Amsterdam Cycle (Grade 1 – Challenging), from £674 pp

A classic European experience, cycling from London to the bike capital of the world, Amsterdam, is a challenge achievable in just a few days. Passing through Suffolk’s picturesque countryside before crossing the Channel, the trip then continues through the flat landscape of Dutch Zeeland before arriving in pretty Amsterdam. Characterised by its network of canals and stand-out architecture, the inspiring city is the ideal finishing location and the challenge culminates in a celebratory evening meal, followed by a free morning to explore the cobbled streets before heading home by train.

Departing 22 September, this three-day cycle – approx. 89 km to 132 km daily – is priced from £674 pp (two sharing) and includes all transport (ferry and train), accommodation, most meals (including celebratory meal in Amsterdam), Discover Adventure leaders, and full vehicle support with mechanics and drivers. Bike not included.

Cycle the Coast to Rio (Grade 1 – Challenging), from £2,799 pp

Synonymous with glittering carnivals and eye-popping vistas, Brazil’s Rio de Janiero sets the scene for a spectacular finish to this epic cycle challenge. Setting off from the coastal resort of Guarujá on Santo Amaro island in São Paulo, the undulating roads of the route encompass hidden bays and fishing villages, beautiful sandy beaches, endless blue sea and lush rainforest-covered slopes. With this one of the most scenic cycling routes in the world, discover the beautiful small town of Paraty at the end of the historic Gold Trail, before celebrating a memorable finish in Rio.

Departing 15 September, this 10-day cycle – approx. 40 km to 90 km daily – is priced from £2,799 pp (two sharing) and includes all flights (London), accommodation, transport, most meals, bike, and assistance from experienced Discover Adventure leaders/mechanics and doctor, plus a local support crew of guides, cooks and drivers.

Yosemite to San Francisco Cycle (Grade 2 – Demanding), from £2,874 pp

The spectacular Yosemite National Park is the starting point for this epic cycle challenge. A monumentally beautiful area of huge granite peaks and towering cliffs, roaring waterfalls and sparkling lakes, the initial stages of the ride include the park’s main landmarks of Yosemite Falls and El Capitan. From here, climb the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, through landscapes of pine forests, tranquil lakes and vineyards and on to the rolling plains of the west. The unforgettable finish is on the Pacific coast, at the iconic Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco.

Departing 30 September, this diverse nine-day cycle – approx. 16 km to 113 km daily – costs from £2,874 pp (two sharing), and includes all transport (London / San Francisco return), all accommodation and camping equipment, support from Discover Adventure leaders, local guides/mechanics, drivers and back-up equipment, entry to the National Park and any other sites included in the itinerary, plus the use of an 8-speed Hybrid Touring Bike.

Carcassonne to Barcelona Cycle (Grade 3 – Tough), from £1,074 pp

Setting off from southern France’s breathtaking walled city of Carcassonne, this cycle challenge takes on Cathar country’s rolling hills before reaching the mighty Pyrenees. The perfect trip for those looking for a different route in Europe, this trip provides the chance to emulate the Tour de France and Tour of Spain pros by tackling the twisting climb of Andorra’s Porte d’Envalira (2,408m) and the Catalan Pyrenees. The final push takes the group to a glorious finish in the iconic Spanish city of Barcelona.

Departing 25 September, this six-day cycle – approx. 90 km to 130 km daily – is priced from £1,074 pp (two sharing) and includes accommodation, airport transfers, most meals, Discover Adventure leaders and vehicle support. Flights extra. Bike not included.
