Two New OMO Hotels Put Yokohama in the Spotlight as Japan’s ‘Slow-City’ Alternative to Tokyo

Our Stories

For a taste of Japan’s vibrant urban energy, outside of the intensity of Tokyo, Yokohama is fast emerging as a compelling alternative – combining maritime heritage, contemporary design and a more relaxed pace of city life.

Just under an hour from the capital, the port city offers a sophisticated blend of culture and creativity, with space to explore at a slower rhythm – and this year, Hoshino Resorts is strengthening Yokohama’s appeal with the launch of two new properties under its OMO brand.

Designed to connect guests with the character of the city’s neighbourhoods, OMO7 Yokohama and OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi offer two distinctly different approaches, from heritage-led immersion to high-rise living above the harbour.

1

OMO7 Yokohama

Opened on 21 April 2026, OMO7 Yokohama is a vibrant new hotel set within the historic former Yokohama City Hall building, originally designed by renowned Japanese architect Togo Murano. Located within the new BASEGATE Kannai development, the property celebrates the legacy of the port city’s maritime past by blending preserved architectural features with contemporary design.

The hotel offers 276 guest rooms defined by bold colour palettes inspired by the building’s original interiors – these include the multi-level Yagura Suite and the Katariba Room – alongside social spaces designed to encourage interaction and discovery.

Guests are invited to explore the surrounding neighbourhood through guided OMO Ranger tours, introducing the history and legacy of the building and celebrating its place in the city of Yokohama, as well as enjoying local cuisine from one of the bustling local restaurants.

From the artisanal scents of the OMO Bakery to immersive neighbourhood walks, this property offers a distinctive gateway into Yokohama’s creative and free-spirited identity.

Rates at OMO7 Yokohama start from 36,000 JPY (approx. £165) per room per night (two sharing; room only). Contact: OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts – Official Site

OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi

Opened in January 2026, OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi marks a new direction for the OMO brand as its first apartment-style hotel, offering a residential approach to city stays.

Located 154 metres above ground in a landmark skyscraper, the property delivers sweeping panoramic views across the Yokohama skyline. Designed with subtle nautical references inspired by ship cabins, each room includes a kitchen and laundry facilities, catering to longer stays and those seeking greater flexibility. The hotel’s defining feature is its “360° Sky Voyage” vantage point, with views extending across the bay and, on clear days, reaching as far as Mount Fuji, the Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Tower.

Guests can further immerse themselves in the setting through a circular “wheelhouse” lounge, cruise-inspired communal spaces and curated evening experiences. As with all OMO properties, the signature Go-KINJO service connects guests with the surrounding neighbourhood, offering insider access to local culture, dining and hidden spots.

Rates at OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi start from 24,000 JPY (approx. £112) per room per night (two sharing a Superior King room; room only). Contact: https://hoshinoresorts.com/en/hotels/omo5yokohamabashamichi/
