The Grange Hotel in York appoints Travel PR

The Grange Hotel - logoTravel PR is delighted to announce that it is now representing The Grange Hotel in York, a Regency Grade II listed townhouse, just a five-minute stroll from the historic city centre.

Built in 1829, the former private house was converted into an hotel by the current owners 26 years ago and now offers country house elegance in the heart of the city. Famous horse racing memorabilia adorns the walls, including commemorative scarves (dating back to 1886) given to race winners, which are displayed on the main staircase.

The Grange Hotel - BedroomAn extensive refurbishment, which began in 2015, has so far seen the addition of five ground floor bedrooms, the development of the vaulted cellars into The Ivy Brasserie and the installation of lifts to all floors. The Library and Drawing Room are due to be refurbished in autumn 2016.

The four-star Georgian gem now has 41 spacious, individually-designed bedrooms, all boasting flat screen TVs, Taylors of Harrogate hospitality trays, laptop safes, free WiFi and luxury toiletries from The White Company. Most premier rooms are further equipped with underfloor heating, air conditioning and TVs in the bathroom.

Forthcoming events at the hotel include a prosecco upgrade for National Afternoon Tea Week (8-14 August), live music nights (2 & 16 September, 7 & 21 October) and a literary lunch with author Antonia Hodgson (8 September).

The Grange Hotel - BrasserieThe two AA-Rosette Ivy Brasserie fuses French cuisine with local Yorkshire ingredients. The open brickwork in the vaulted cellars – an air raid shelter during World War II – has been converted into a stylish, modern space lit by a mix of candles and industrial lighting.

The restaurant is supplied by small companies that Head Chef Will Nicol has worked with for many years, including local butchers, fishmongers and artisan cheese suppliers. Seasonal flavours are celebrated in the frequently-changing menus and specials. Yorkshire rhubarb, black pudding and monkfish wrapped in cured ham are all popular, while Whitby crab cakes are a year-round staple.

Says Will Nicol: “We use Yorkshire produce whenever possible, but combining these ingredients with those from further afield is important. The tartiflette, for example, a traditionally French dish, is made with local charcuterie, British heritage potatoes and the famous French Reblochon cheese”.

York - City CentreThe hotel is situated a mere five-minute stroll from the historic centre of York and has its own car park – a rarity in York; parking costs just £10 per night for guests. The City Walls, which form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse, and the imposing 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, are close by. Browse the timber-framed boutiques, independent shops and cafés that make up The Shambles (narrow medieval cobbled streets) or watch a performance at the recently reopened Theatre Royal.

Perfectly-located for family visits to Jorvik, the famous reconstructed Viking village, and the National Railway Museum, amongst other York highlights, the hotel is also dog-friendly.

Lead-in price: A one-night stay costs from £99 per room (two sharing) including full English breakfast.
