The Greece specialist is urgently seeking donations which will be flown to Samos
free of charge on its last charter flight of the season with Germania Airlines

24 September 2015

Sunvil, in conjunction with German carrier Germania Airlines, is collecting donations to assist with the refugee crisis in Greece. Essential supplies will be flown to Samos on the operator’s last charter flight of the season, departing London Gatwick on 1 October.

The independent operator is expecting to fly up to three tonnes of aid to Samos, and has been in consultation with the Red Cross and local refugee support groups regarding the sort of donations that are most urgently needed.

They are specifically appealing for tents, sleeping bags, gym mats or similar and warm jackets in all sizes. Other items, such as formula milk, nappies, blankets, soap, toothpaste and brushes, will not be turned away, but the aforementioned items are the most important.

Donations should be sent to: Samos Donations, Sunvil, Sunvil House, Old Isleworth, Middlesex TW7 7BJ.

Monetary donations, which will be used to buy water and food locally, can also be made at crowdfunding.justgiving.com/sunvil.

Says Chris Wright, Sunvil Managing Director: “The plight of the refugees, in Greece especially, has touched everyone at Sunvil. Although our clients holidaying on these islands were unaffected by the crisis, many of them have taken it upon themselves to help, donating shoes, clothes and toiletries, and we wanted to build on that.

“While other European countries can close their borders, Greece doesn’t really have a choice. Our Greek friends are trying their hardest with what little they have to help. It struck us that utilising our last flight of the season to send aid was a fast and effective way of helping. Many refugees are arriving with no possessions, so the simplest of supplies can make a huge difference.”

The move follows Sunvil’s chairman Noel Josephides’ bold decision to offer empty seats on the flight, free of charge, to the Government to enable it to bring refugees to the UK.
