Our Stories

Managing Director of Seaham Hall, Ross Grieve says: “As a local hospitality business, we feel strongly that we have a responsibility to give back to our community and support those families and individuals who need help the most at Christmas and into the New Year, especially after the enormous challenges they’ve had to face in 2020.”

Ascot Care – cream teas for care home residents and staff
Ascot Care is a family-run care group with six care homes in the North East of England, covering West Rainton, Whitley Bay, South Shields, Darlington, Monkseaton and Alnwick. Supported by Head Chef Damian and his kitchen team, as well as drop-off volunteers, Seaham Hall baked and delivered 1,218 festive cream teas to 609 care home residents and staff across all of Ascot’s six care homes on Thursday 10th December.

Steve Gibson, Head of Care & Development at Ascot Care, said: “This is a very kind gesture from Seaham Hall and is greatly appreciated. It is hugely important that our care homes and residents continue to remain connected to the local community. We’re delighted to be working on a community partnership with Seaham Hall and look forward to working on future initiatives with them.”

Cash for Kids Mission Christmas
Cash for Kids is the national organisation giving Santa a helping hand by supporting the 1 in 3 children living in poverty, who face waking up to no gifts on Christmas Day. Seaham Hall is supporting its local branch of Cash for Kids by encouraging its customers and local community to deliver £10 unwrapped Christmas gifts to the hotel’s Serenity Spa, and to make monetary donations, all of which will make a real difference to the lives of young people in poverty. Find out how to donate funds and gifts here.

East Durham Trust
In 2021, Seaham Hall will begin a New Year partnership with social cohesion charity East Durham Trust. The charity, based in Peterlee, County Durham, aims to tackle poverty and deprivation in the former mining communities of East Durham. In partnership with local communities, the charity delivers a range of poverty intervention projects including a food bank, debt and welfare advice, and social inclusion projects such as arts engagement and telephone befriending for isolated adults. In 2021, Seaham Hall will work with East Durham Trust on a number of initiatives, including:

  • A regular supply of essential store cupboard and household supplies for food banks
  • Volunteer schemes to support the trust by organising and delivering donations to various local areas
  • Holistic wellbeing workshops during the recovery phase of Covid-19

Lindsey Wood, Deputy Manager at East Durham Trust, says: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Seaham Hall over the coming months. We look forward to getting started on various initiatives together including holistic wellbeing workshops during the recovery phase of Covid 19, as well as support for our FEED and People’s Takeaway projects, which will all provide much-needed assistance to vulnerable individuals at this particularly difficult time.”

Staff charity success story
Seaham Hall’s hotel reception manager, Danielle Mottram, has been busy baking Christmas-inspired cheesecakes for charity, supporting the Hartlepool branch of MIND.

Says MD Ross Grieve: “We are very proud of what our team has accomplished in the past few days, and we support them wholeheartedly in their ongoing efforts.”
