The Watermill at Posara
Scriptwriting with two comedy legends in Tuscany
Join comedy legends Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran for an inspiring Scriptwriting course at The Watermill at Posara, an idyllic retreat nestled in the Tuscan countryside (7-14 September 2019). The creative minds behind hit television programmes such as Birds of a Feather, Goodnight Sweetheart and Shine on Harvey Moon, as well as numerous stage plays and musicals, Laurence and Maurice will provide fascinating insight into what it takes to create a comedy classic.
The week-long course is a unique opportunity to learn all about the scriptwriting process, developing an original idea through structure, character, plot and script. The expert duo will guide students through one-to-one tutorials, team writing sessions and the study of classic films and television programmes, with enough free time to enjoy the beauty and history of The Watermill and the surrounding towns and villages.
The Watermill is a complex of elegant and historic Tuscan buildings, surrounding a sunny courtyard with an adjoining vine verandah, rose pergola and sun-filled walled garden. More gardens lead to walks along the river and the sun-dappled millstream. Expertly run by Bill and Lois Breckon for over 25 years, The Watermill is renowned for its inspiring creative holidays, which include painting, writing, knitting and Italian language.
A seven-night trip to The Watermill costs from £1,560 pp (two sharing), including all tuition, full-board accommodation (including local restaurants), drinks and aperitivi, transfers (to/from Pisa), local transport, course materials and a mid-week excursion to either Luca or the Cinque Terre. Flights extra. Non-participating partners are very welcome to attend and enjoy a discount of £250.

When I first started out travel writing, twenty years ago, I was writing a weekly round-up for The Independent. The first PR agency I ever tapped into for their clients' holiday ideas was Travel PR; they were always full of great suggestions for the column and responded quickly. Over the years, I've worked with them on many occasions and their close association with AITO has always paid dividends. Nothing has changed; some of the best story ideas I get herald from them, and their response time remains very speedy. They are a pleasure to work with.
