Romantic Break to the Algarve with Sunvil

The Algarve is an alluring destination for couples seeking a late-season getaway. The region retains its enticing buzz without the frantic atmosphere that comes with the school summer holidays; visitors are able to explore the region’s picturesque towns in comfort, and quieter beaches and warmer seas make the coast even more inviting.
Here is Sunvil’s pick of properties across the lesser-known parts of the Algarve, each featuring superb facilities and stylish surroundings, with great authentic experiences on offer nearby – all with availability for September and October:
Vila Monte Farmhouse (eastern Algarve)
Set within nine hectares of land in the village of Moncarapacho, near the low-key seaside town of Fuseta, this member of Design Hotels – with
its superb gardens, two large swimming pools, an excellent restaurant and comfortable rooms and suites – offers a wonderful collection of
romantic experiences. From outdoor cinema screenings to horse riding in the nearby hills, and from oyster tasting aboard a local fishing boat to
horse-drawn carriage ride in Tavira, couples are spoiled for choice. The hotel has its own private beach too, about 15 minutes’ drive away,
accessible via its own boat. Seven nights’ B&B at the four-star Vila Monte Farmhouse costs from £1,058 pp based on two sharing,
including car hire and flights.
Vivenda Miranda (western Algarve)
This boutique hotel occupies a fantastic south-coast ocean-facing location just 2km from the historic town of Lagos, with cliffs either side and lush gardens leading down to a superb beach. The outdoor pool has an integrated jacuzzi, and there is a focus on the organic, with both the spa and the fine-dining restaurant using natural, locally-sourced ingredients and produce. Couples can enjoy coastal walks with dramatic views along dedicated paths; the wonderful west-coast bays and seemingly endless white-sand beaches of the Atlantic coast are within an easy drive and offer superb views; this is a paradise for surfers, photographers or painters. Seven nights’ half-board at the four-star Vivenda Miranda
costs from £1,460 pp based on two sharing, including car hire and flights.
Pousada Convento de Tavira (western Algarve)
This 16th century convent has been lovingly restored, retaining much of its beautiful Baroque and Renaissance architecture. Standing on Castle
Hill in the charming small town of Tavira, guests can relax around the pool (which offers excellent views from its unique city-wall location), visit
the quiet sandy beach, or explore the town’s great sites, including the 16th century Igreja da Misericórdia – a stunning church featuring a
magnificent carved door and blue-tiled interiors. Seven nights’ B&B at Pousada Convento de Tavira costs from £989 pp based on two
sharing, including car hire and flights.
All holiday prices include return flights with a 20kg baggage allowance per person from London Gatwick to Faro Airport and car hire.
Driving is easy and relaxed along quiet country lanes from each hotel, and access from Faro Airport to westernmost and easternmost reaches of
the Algarve is via a civilised motorway which avoids the central, built-up region of the Algarve.
All Sunvil arrangements are tailor-made; why not combine a few days in western Algarve with a few days in the east? The driving distances are
surprisingly short – from Lagos in the west to Tavira in the east takes about 75 minutes (just 115 km, or 71 miles), with plenty of options to stop
and explore en route.
