As the festive season approaches, HOSHINOYA Bali invites guests to slow down and celebrate the holidays the Balinese way – through joy, connection, artistry, and serenity. From 20 December 2025 to 3 January 2026, the resort presents Indigenous Bali’s Festive Holiday Celebrations, an immersive series of cultural and culinary experiences inspired by the island’s authentic spirit of togetherness.

While Bali’s traditional calendar doesn’t mark religious holidays during this period, the festive programme created by HOSHINOYA Bali’s local team offers international guests the chance to celebrate the season through heartfelt Balinese customs, crafts, and rituals. It’s a time to rediscover the beauty of community and the quiet joy of reflection, surrounded by the lush forests and serene waterways of Ubud.

A celebration of artistry and place

Throughout the resort, festive decorations inspired by the Balinese ceremonial traditions bring warmth and beauty to every corner. Guests are welcomed by an entrance gate adorned with handwoven ornaments, while vibrant Flower Gebogans – towering floral arrangements central to Balinese offerings – add to the sense of occasion and meaning.

Hands-on experiences invite guests to participate in local artistry. In Tamiang and Canang making workshops, visitors craft traditional woven symbols of protection and daily offerings. Meanwhile, the Balinese Nengajo activity – inspired by Japan’s New Year greeting cards – offers a creative fusion of cultures, allowing guests to write well-wishes in delicate Balinese script while colouring scenes of tranquil Ubud.

The culinary heart: Rasa Nusa festive dinner

At the centre of this year’s celebrations is the Rasa Nusa Festive Dinner – a multi-sensory culinary journey across the Indonesian archipelago. This specially crafted menu features a luxurious selection of signature dishes inspired by the diverse flavours and culinary heritage of Indonesia’s many islands. This Balinese ceremonial cuisine, includes Lawar Cumi (minced squid, shredded coconut, and vegetables tossed in Balinese spice paste) and Sate Lilit (grilled minced and richly seasoned fish moulded around lemongrass stalk), and Ayam Goreng Konje (fried marinated chicken with spices and torch ginger crumbs) from Sukabumi/West Jawa.

Each course is paired with stories and visual cues that bring the archipelago to life: as guests dine, staff introduce the origins of each dish using an Indonesian map, guiding travellers through the distinct flavours of Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali, and beyond. The result is a dining experience that is not just indulgent, but deeply cultural – an edible exploration of Indonesia’s diversity, shared in the spirit of festive togetherness. During select evenings, guests will also enjoy the gentle melodies of Rindik, traditional Balinese bamboo music performed live by local musicians, creating an atmosphere of tranquillity and celebration.

On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day, guests are invited to raise a complimentary festive toast with loloh cemcem – a refreshing Balinese herbal cocktail or mocktail symbolising health and renewal. And to greet the first morning of 2026, breakfast will feature Putri Mandi (meaning “bathing princess”) – a vibrant, sweet treat representing purity and new beginnings.

Joyful ceremonies and living traditions

HOSHINOYA Bali’s festive season embraces the island’s lively traditions that connect generations through movement and music. Young guests can join a Kids’ Balinese Dance Learning session, discovering graceful gestures and steps guided by friendly local staff.

The highlight of the celebrations continues into the evening with the Janger Dance Performance, a spirited communal dance performed on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, symbolising harmony and good fortune for the year ahead. As the music builds and dancers move in unison, guests are invited to share in the joy of community and renewal.

To complement the performance, the evening includes Toshikoshi Soba – a Japanese New Year’s Eve dish with ingredients such as soba noodles and tempura shrimp – symbolising the cutting away of misfortune and welcoming prosperity, a symbolic bridge between Balinese and Japanese cultures that defines HOSHINOYA’s unique hospitality.
