What’s new for 2015?

Greece

Exploring the Peloponnese

Discover the many and varied delights of the Peloponnese: the large peninsula that makes up the southernmost point of mainland Greece, home to endless cultural riches and superb natural beauty. Trace a path through the area’s enthralling past, exploring an impressive six UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the colossal Bronze Age fortifications of Tiryns and Mycenae, the beautifully-preserved theatre at Epidaurus and the Byzantine enclaves of Mystras. There are also visits to undiscovered spots far off the beaten track, such as the cliff-top monasteries of Arcadia and the frescoed churches of the Mani peninsula. The region is distinguished by its spectacular landscapes: rugged mountains jut skywards, small plains spread out beneath and rocky fingers extend out to sea along the uneven shore. There is also much to please gourmet travellers, who will have ample opportunities to enjoy fine food and wine throughout.

Departing 3 June, the 13-night trip costs £3,595 pp (two sharing) including full-board accommodation in    3-5* hotels, airport transfers, all entrance fees and expert guiding. Flights extra.

From the Slopes of Mt Olympus to the Shores of the Aegean: the Archaeology, Food & Wine of Macedonia

Journey through Northern Greece on this comprehensive tour of the ancient region of Macedon, with its abundance of archaeological wonders, and delightfully diverse topography. Excavations in this area are currently unveiling new discoveries, such as the Kasta Tumulus at Amphipolis – a burial mound that is one of Greece’s most intriguing recent archaeological finds. In fascinating Thessaloniki, experience glorious Byzantine heritage, substantial Roman remains and excellent museums that chart the city’s 2,300-year history. There are visits to plenty of remarkable historic sites, ranging from Neolithic lake dwellings to majestic Ottoman mansions, as well as explorations of charming traditional villages and peaceful monasteries. Travelling between each location is a joy in itself – views en route include mighty mountains, lush valleys and the sparkling waters of the Aegean Sea. The route passes into many of Greece’s finest wine-growing areas, and there will be chances to taste the divine products of the country’s recent oenological revolution.

Departing 2 September, the 13-night trip costs £3,595 pp (two sharing) including full-board accommodation in 3-5* hotels, airport transfers, all entrance fees and expert guiding. Flights extra.

Italy

Exploring Rome

Get under the skin of the Eternal City and discover its countless layers of history, following its evolution from a humble riverside settlement to the world’s foremost seat of power, and then again into the vibrant and spirited capital that stands today. Two specialist guides – equipped with both boundless knowledge and infectious enthusiasm – will lead you through Rome’s world-renowned Classical wonders: the Forum, the Pantheon, the Colosseum, plus many more, as well as a host of lesser-known spots, far off the tourist trail. Beyond the confines of Rome itself, there are visits to the huge and secluded Villa of Hadrian at Tivoli and the astonishingly well-preserved residential quarters of ancient Ostia, Rome’s harbour town. Accommodation is in a handsomely-restored Renaissance monastery, located in the Trastevere district with its elegant restaurants, bars and cafés – ideal for sampling Rome’s excellent culinary offerings.

Departing 17 October, the seven-night trip costs £2,895 pp (two sharing) including full-board accommodation in a 4* hotel, airport transfers, all entrance fees and expert guiding. Flights extra.

Turkey

Walking and Cruising the Carian Coast

Explore Turkey’s unspoilt Carian Coast on this blissful cruise aboard a traditional wooden gulet, which includes daily walks along sections of the recently opened Carian Trail. This remarkable 500-mile footpath traces the rocky and remote coastline, passing through sleepy little villages, over pine-blanketed hills, along herb-lined tracks and past rarely-visited archaeological sites. Each day will consist of a walk of five to six miles, with an expert guide on hand to bring to life the Byzantine churches, ancient towns and historic remains. Travelling by gulet grants access to otherwise difficult-to-reach areas, and this trip gives a real sense of seeing an authentic side of Turkey. As well as the walks, guests will also enjoy swims in quiet and secluded coves and delicious hand-prepared meals aboard their elegant vessel.

Departing 3 October, the seven-night trip costs £2,175 pp (two sharing) including airport transfers, full-board accommodation, crew, all entrance fees and expert guiding. Flights extra.
