Perfect romance in the Pearl of Dorset at the Alexandra

Treat your loved one to a chic coastal romance at the Alexandra this February –
Few locations set the scene for romance like Lyme Regis, with its famous harbour wall, the Cobb, as featured in novels such as Jane Austen’s Persuasion and John Fowles’ The French Lieutenant’s Woman. Perched on a cliff-top overlooking this delightful scene (with its picturesque harbour, Lyme Bay and glistening azure sea), boutique bolthole The Alexandra Hotel and Restaurant is a dreamy place to visit with your Valentine or that special someone this February. It’s little wonder the coastal town is known as the Pearl of Dorset:
Two-night Valentine Weekend Break – from £273 per person
Wrap up warm and stroll hand in hand along the Jurassic Coast before returning to the warmth of the hotel to watch majestic waves through the windows or stargaze through the brass telescope in the cosy sitting room. A two-night Valentine Weekend Break (9 & 10 February or 16 & 17 February) costs from £545 total/£273 per person (two sharing) including accommodation, a bottle of rosé Champagne, handmade fossil-shaped chocolates in the room on arrival, full English breakfast and a seven-course Valentine’s Tasting Menu with wine pairings.
Valentine’s Seven-Course Tasting Menu – from £90 per person
The elegant Alexandra Restaurant, which serves seasonal dishes with ingredients from local producers, has won Gold in the prestigious Taste of the West Awards for four consecutive years. Head Chef Tom Holloway is passionate about using ‘local to Lyme’ ingredients from family-run farms, artisan producers and the hotel’s own kitchen garden. Available on the 9, 10, 14, 16 and 17 February, the Valentine’s Seven-Course Tasting Menu costs £90 per person and includes a glass of rosé Champagne on arrival and seven courses paired with specially-selected wines. Delicious dishes on the menu include Exmouth oysters with raspberry vinegar and shallot dressing, spiced-potted hand-picked Brixham crab, white peach and Prosecco granita, mustard-infused Devonshire ribeye steak, salted-caramel fondant with toffee popcorn and vanilla ice cream, and a selection of West Country cheeses with homemade chutney and artisan biscuits.
Bespoke romance in the Lookout Tower – from £99 per person
For something extra special, the secluded Lookout Tower nestled amongst trees in the hotel’s garden, is the perfect choice for a wildly romantic private dinner. Exclusive use of the picturesque folly with a private butler to set the mood with candles and music, plus dinner (three courses with a glass of champagne, champagne sorbet, strawberry platter, cheese, coffee and petit fours) costs £99 per person.
The hotel: The Alexandra Hotel and Restaurant is Grade-II listed and has 23-individually-designed bedrooms, including a sumptuous suite (The Countess’s Room) with a bay window and sweeping sea views. The hotel has been decorated in keeping with its coastal location and in-room amenities include ammonite-fossil-shaped chocolates and marine-extract toiletries.
