Opening: Namibia’s most extraordinary private family villa

Our Stories

Eight years in the making and magnificently minimal, The Nest at Sossus is already in demand from families with older children (aged 12 and over) seeking an exclusive and luxurious experience in an iconic area of Namibia.

Eagerly awaited and expected to open on 1st February 2019, The Nest at Sossus is situated within the Namib-Naukluft National Park and has architecturally innovative buildings, designed to resemble the communal nests of sociable weaver birds.

Available to book on a private basis, the villa has three private en suite double bedrooms, plus an en suite children’s room. There are spacious indoor and outdoor lounge and dining areas, as well as a library and a superb open-plan kitchen.

As well as a glorious swimming pool and a children’s playground, there are various sitting areas positioned beneath camelthorn trees, and striking contemporary African art is scattered around the grounds. The valley has several seasonal waterholes and waterfalls, and a variety of wildlife is anticipated in the area. The villa’s floodlit waterhole is the perfect place to wait and watch as evening draws in.

The sheer size of Namibia and the emptiness of its rugged, awe-inspiring landscape make it an adventurous yet safe country for families to explore; overall, Namibia has a very low malarial risk.

Expert Africa suggests a nine-day itinerary taking in some of Namibia’s highlights, including visiting the Namib-Naukluft National Park to see the iconic towering apricot-coloured dunes, viewing incredible landscapes and the seascapes of the Skeleton Coast, seeking desert-adapted elephants and culture in Damaraland, plus an action-packed safari element around the waterholes and salt pans of Etosha National Park.

Namibia is only two hours ahead of the UK and flights are overnight, meaning no jet lag for children or adults alike.

The trip costs from £7,547 pp (six sharing) including eight nights’ accommodation (one night’s B&B at the Olive Grove Windhoek, three nights’ full-board at The Nest at Sossus, two nights’ full-board at Damaraland Camp and two nights’ at full-board at Ongava Lodge), all activities and internal flights around Namibia. International flights extra; Expert Africa can book these from £1,000 pp.
