New vintage-style sleeper train in Zimbabwe:
Victoria Falls to Hwange National Park

The Stimela Star is an exciting new way to arrive on safari. The private overnight train has a modern diesel engine and beautifully restored carriages dating back to the 1950s. Sleeping up to 24 passengers in twin or single compartments, the train features an elegant dining car and a lounge car with a fully-serviced bar.

Departing at 7pm from Victoria Falls train station, welcome drinks are served, followed by dinner, coffees and liqueurs, and a history talk on the railways in Zimbabwe. Guests can retire to their cabins for the night as the train meanders its way towards Hwange National Park. Breakfast is served from 7am the following morning before guests disembark.

Expert Africa’s ten-day Yellow Billed Hornbill Safari begins at Gorges Lodge, overlooking the Batonka Gorge, allowing travellers a few days to visit the Victoria Falls. Next comes the night on the Stimela Star, to Hwange National Park, transferring on to the Elephant Express, an open-sided tram car that allows for wildlife viewing as you head to the south of the park where the remaining four days are spent on safari.

Says MD of Expert Africa, Chris McIntyre, ‘This is a relaxing and stylish way to arrive on safari, and comes highly recommended by the Expert Africa team.’

The cost is from £4,596 pp (based on two sharing), including return flights from London, full board accommodation, most drinks, all game activities, transfers – including the Stimela Star and the Elephant Express – and laundry.
