Seaham Hall to unveil Ada Lovelace Suite

11th October – Ada Lovelace Day 2016

Following a £3M refurbishment, five-star Seaham Hall – a boutique hotel, set in a glorious cliff-top position on Durham’s Heritage Coast, with just 22 suites – is next week unveiling its latest innovation, the Ada Lovelace Suite. This addition is a wonderful reminder – and celebration – of the Hall’s fascinating history and links with Lord Byron and, fittingly, will be revealed for the first time on 11th October, Ada Lovelace Day 2016.

Lord and Lady Byron married in a beautifully light room, overlooking Seaham Hall’s grounds and the nearby coast, in 1815.  Their daughter, Ada Lovelace, born almost exactly 200 years ago, has provided the inspiration for the newest suite which now inhabits this space.

Ada the Revolutionary

Ada was known in her time as a revolutionary and influential mathematician and writer, and she is widely credited with being the world’s first computer programmer, at a time when computers weren’t even in existence. She was called the Enchantress of Numbers by her fellow scientific collaborators – an amazing accolade and feat at a time when women were expected simply to stay at home and to bring up their children.

A sumptuous range of fabrics, many in delicate shades of lilac and blue – including, in a nod to Ada’s title of Countess of Lovelace, beautiful hand-made lace – have been translated into the carefully-created finishes.

The grand split-level suite features a simpler, chic glazed bathroom and mirrored boudoir. There’s an elevated sleeping mezzanine overlooking a generous lounge with a bathing deck, complete with two mischievously-placed slipper baths which sit in front of the stunning Georgian windows overlooking the Seaham Estate and the sea beyond.

The Old, the New and the Eclectic

Seaham Hall, a Georgian manor house, offers contemporary and luxurious interior design, blending the old with the new and eclectic. The hotel features two restaurants (under the direction of the hotel’s acclaimed new Head Chef Ross Stovold), 37 acres of blissful grounds, and an outstanding 44,000 sq ft spa with a stunning indoor swimming pool, outdoor hot tubs and much more.

The Ada Lovelace Suite will cost from £595 per night in what must surely be one of the most romantic suites in the UK, including a full English breakfast.

Seaham Hall is under three hours by train from central London, and by car is just 20 minutes from Durham, 40 minutes from Newcastle, 90 minutes from Edinburgh and less than three hours from Manchester. The hotel’s close proximity to Newcastle is also ideal for those travelling from international destinations, via Newcastle airport and/or the North East Ferry Port.

Seaham Hall is featured in Tripadvisor’s 2016 Travellers’ Choice Top 25 Small Hotels in the UK and Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the UK, and additional current accolades include Spa Manager of the Year in the Boutique Hotelier Awards, Editor’s Choice Spa in the Good Hotel Guide, Five Bubble Luxury accreditation by the Good Spa Guide, and Gold in ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ at the North East England Tourism Awards.
