Two new restaurants at Dormy House in the Cotswolds
Overseen by Culinary Director Martin Burge, two new restaurants, The Back Garden and MO, have opened at Dormy House on the Farncombe Estate, deep in the Cotswolds. The Back Garden celebrates the finest local ingredients, from high-welfare, rare-breed meats to vegetables grown in the kitchen garden, which the restaurant overlooks. MO showcases creative cooking, unexpected ingredients and forward-thinking culinary techniques, with a seven-course tasting menu designed for just 12 guests at a time. At MO, guests will never eat from the same menu twice, as each dish focuses on ingredients that are at their peak. Stay overnight from £269 per room (two sharing), including breakfast.
Whatley Manor in Wiltshire awarded 4 AA Rosettes
The Dining Room at Whatley Manor Hotel and Spa in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, has been awarded four AA Rosettes, an accolade held by only 42 restaurants in the UK and Ireland. Executive Chef Niall Keating earned the Michelin Young Chef Award in 2018, shortly after the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. Following a recent refurbishment, the hotel is offering a front row seat to its kitchens from the gastronomy bar in The Green Room, where guests can watch chefs prepare small plates inspired by ingredients from around the world. Stay overnight from £325 per room (two sharing), including use of the spa and breakfast.
New Head Chefs at The Montagu Arms and South Lodge
The Terrace restaurant at The Montagu Arms in Beaulieu, Hampshire, will welcome back Matthew Whitfield as Head Chef; he returns six years after leaving his role as Head Pastry Chef. Since then, Matthew has worked at a succession of Michelin-starred restaurants, including his most recent role at Eleven Madison Park, one of New York’s top restaurants. Stay overnight from £229 per room (two sharing), including breakfast.
Fine-dining restaurant The Pass at South Lodge, near Horsham, Sussex, has appointed Tom Kemble as its new Head Chef. Having recently helped Bonhams in Mayfair to achieve a Michelin star just seven months after opening, Tom’s new set lunch and dinner menus make use of the hotel’s walled kitchen garden and the supplier network that he has established over the past five years. Stay overnight from £265 per room (two sharing), including breakfast.
Nathan Outlaw heads to The Goring, London
Celebrated chef Nathan Outlaw will open a new Cornish seafood restaurant at The Goring in Belgravia. The as-yet unnamed brasserie-style restaurant will feature simple yet delectable seafood dishes, showcasing the best of Cornish seafood and also a wide range of Cornish produce. The restaurant is being designed by architect Russell Sage and will feature a new orangery overlooking the hotel’s gardens. Stay overnight from £410 room only (two sharing).
Exquisite dining at The Nare in Cornwall
With panoramic views over Cornwall’s Carne Beach, The Dining Room at The Nare is renowned for its traditional silver service dining experience. The Table d’Hôte menu changes daily and features an hors d’oeuvres trolley, fresh lobster, Guéridon-served flambé dishes, homemade puddings, local cheeses and petit fours.
On a summer’s day, there is the delightful option of chartering one of the hotel’s boats with a homemade picnic, choosing from a selection of sandwiches, cheeses, fruits and homemade cakes. A luxury picnic is also available (£50 pp), featuring locally-sourced smoked salmon and lobster. Stay overnight from £299 per room (two sharing), including breakfast and complimentary afternoon cream tea.
