The Aurora Zone

NEW: Leave a lighter footprint with The Aurora Zone at the eco-friendly Sunday Morning Resort

The UK’s original Northern Lights holiday company, The Aurora Zone, has announced the addition of the new sustainable lakeside Sunday Morning Resort, in Finnish Lapland, to its bucket list holiday offering.
Located 100 km above the Arctic Circle in the fell scenery of one of Finland’s oldest national parks, Pyhä-Luosto National Park, Sunday Morning Resort is a retreat offering access to unbelievable Arctic experiences and Northern Lights opportunities. Despite being just 90 minutes from Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland and also the nearest airport, the resort is located away from light pollution on the shores of Lake Pyhä – making it the perfect place for hunting the Aurora Borealis.
With a focus on sustainability, nature is key to every aspect of Sunday Morning Resort. It is carbon neutral, thanks to its eco-friendly heating systems (geothermal power being the main source, alongside a heat recovery system and air-source heat pumps), and the surrounding six-hectare forest acts as a carbon sink. The restaurant incorporates only local, seasonal and wild ingredients, the gardens use only organic fertilisers and the resort has a social conscience, employing local people as permanent staff members.
The resort also provides sustainable excursion options. Activities on offer include exploring the wilderness by electric snowmobile which, as well as being environmentally friendly and completely silent, is the only type of snowmobile allowed in the national park, giving guests exclusive access with The Aurora Zone. Visitors can search for the Northern Lights at ease, knowing that they are protecting the environment that they are visiting. Other activities include electric fatbiking, traditional husky sledding, ice climbing, snowshoeing and hitting the slopes at two nearby ski resorts, too.
The small, quiet resort features a main lodge with a large dining area, lounge, cosy lobby bar, gym and modern sauna. The building has a peaceful wing with just four double bedrooms, each equipped with intelligent mattresses, a private balcony overlooking the frozen lake and en suite facilities featuring steam, sauna and massage showers. There is also a separate building a short walk away with four private apartments (available as an upgrade), each with one bedroom, a living room with fireplace, kitchen, bathroom and private sauna. Additionally, there is a wood-heated lakeside sauna, traditional smoke sauna and wood-fired hot tub. The buildings are built from old pine timber, providing a log cabin feel which reflects the natural environment.
Stay at Sunday Morning Resort as part of The Aurora Zone’s new Pyhä – Tailor Made holiday, which offers the chance to relax at the resort or explore the landscape via an array of Arctic adventures. Choose from daytime activities such as an electric snowmobile safari, electric fatbike tour, ice climbing and husky sledding. By night, hunt for the Northern Lights by snowshoe, electric snowmobile and on a reindeer-pulled sleigh. The cost is from £1,265 pp (two sharing), including flights (Gatwick), transfers, three nights’ half-board accommodation, cold weather clothing and an Aurora alert system. Activities and additional nights priced as extra. Departures from 1 December 2019 – 3 April 2020.
