Sunvil launches new 2016 Italy & Sicily brochure

Italy specialist of 38 years’ standing adds chic Milan and focuses on innovative, flexible itineraries and experiences

Italy specialist Sunvil launches its 2016 Italy and Sicily holidays brochure this week, featuring an outstanding choice of accommodation including five-star villa hotels, agriturismos (farm properties), apartments, spa resorts and trulli houses (traditional cottages with conical roofs). From simple short breaks to flexible fly-drives, itineraries can be tailor-made to suit all individual requirements.

For the first time, Sunvil invites travellers to visit stylish Milan, renowned for its high fashion credentials, and the perfect accompaniment to a sojourn based around the magnificent Italian Lakes.

The Sunvil team’s in-depth knowledge extends well beyond the hotels and obvious attractions, and includes wonderful Italian and Sicilian cuisine, culture, history and lesser-known regions. Sunvil is also proud to feature the UK’s most alberobellocomprehensive range of agriturismi in Italy & Sicily, all of which have been carefully handpicked for their character and location.

“Our Italy and Sicily programme is designed to be as flexible as possible and draws on our first-hand knowledge of these unique and beautiful destinations. Through the years we’ve fine-tuned our offering to include the very best experiences Italy and Sicily have to offer, with value for money, special experiences and flexibility remaining at the heart of what we do,” comments Rosanna Melaragni, Sunvil Italy & Sicily Manager.

New itineraries for 2016 include:

Milan & Lake Como
New energy is coursing through Milan, with old structures repurposed as bars, restaurants and cultural centres following the hosting of Expo 2015. From here, it’s very easy to hop on a train and combine this frenetic city with the serene surrounds of iconic Lake Como. From £1,297 pp (two sharing), including seven nights’ B&B, return flights (Gatwick) and private transfers.

A luxury city break in Rome
Discover Rome’s eternal appeal in splendid style with three nights spent at the five-star deluxe Indigo Rome – St George’s Hotel located in the historic centre on the glamorous Via Giulia. Formerly a palace, the hotel effortlessly combines old and new, and the indulgent spa of course features a Roman bath – perfect after a day of pavement pounding. From £739 pp (two sharing), including three nights’ B&B, return flights (Gatwick), private transfers and a half-day private tour of the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel.

On the Trail of the Normans – Palermo & Cefalù
Combine the brash jumble of old and new in Palermo, Sicily’s beguiling capital, with the charming fishing port of Cefalù, home to an imposing twin-towered Norman cathedral which boasts UNESCO World Heritage status. The long stretch of sandy beach here is one of the best in Sicily. From £1,212 pp (two sharing), including five nights’ B&B, return flights (Gatwick), return private transfers and train transfer from Palermo to Cefalù.

Delicious Sicily
With its thriving viticulture and eclectic cuisine, Sicily should be high on any foodie traveller’s wish list. This new multi-centre, fly-drive itinerary, uncovers a culinary tradition that draws on dishes from the ancient Greeks, Arabs and Normans. Savour a stay at a family-run winery, traditional Sicilian cooking classes, Marsala tasting and much more. From £788 pp (two sharing), including seven nights’ B&B, return flights (Gatwick), two dinners and car hire.

Also new on Sicily is the luxurious Ortea Palace Hotel in Syracuse. Formerly the Post Office headquarters, this newly-opened, Art Nouveau property is situated in the historic centre of Syracuse and overlooks Ortigia Island with its Baroque buildings, impressive Duomo and seaside promenade. From £1,208 pp (two sharing), including seven nights’ B&B, return flights (Heathrow) and private transfers.

TuscanySunvil also features a tantalising range of gastronomic and wine-themed experiences nationwide, from traditional cooking tutorials in the Chianti Hills to wine-tasting in a Tuscan medieval hilltop hamlet or participation in olive and grape harvests (all payable locally). Many of its properties, especially the agriturismi, offer mouth-watering authentic local cuisine and wine-tasting; all food and wine itineraries can be tailor-made to suit individual requirements.

The extensive regions covered in the new brochure include Veneto, Lombardy and the Lakes, Tuscany, Lazio (Rome), Campania, Basilicata and Puglia in Italy, plus Messina, Catania, Syracuse, Ragusa, Enna, Palermo, Trapani and Agrigento in Sicily, and Lipari and Vulcano in the Aeolian Islands.
