New camp, with spectacular views and state-of-the-art air-con beds, opens in Malawi

Robin Pope Safaris – synonymous with world-class camps in wilderness areas and extraordinary safari experiences – is delighted to announce the opening of its keenly-anticipated new camp in southern Malawi’s lush Liwonde National Park.
Kuthengo Camp, consisting of just four extremely comfortable and authentic safari tents, opened on 27th April. Hidden amid fever trees and baobabs, and situated on a large open plain stretching towards the glorious Shire River, each en-suite abode has an outdoor shower, a bathtub, and state-of-the-art Evening Breeze air-conditioned beds, plus a private deck – the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner whilst watching herds of waterbuck.
The main area and dining area are located under a magnificent fever tree, overlooking the Shire River where herds of elephants and other game are frequently seen coming down for a drink or to cool off.
Liwonde is a virtually untouched national park which promises adventurous game drives, walking safaris and peaceful boat cruises. The diverse environments – riverine, grassland and Mopane Woodlands – are home to hippo, crocodile, elephant, buffalo, endangered black rhino and antelope.
Cheetah and lion have recently been reintroduced to Liwonde, thanks to conservation efforts in the area, restoring it to a Big Five park. Liwonde is also a birder’s paradise, with nearly 300 species, including the Böhm’s Bee-eater, Livingstone’s Flycatcher and Lillian’s lovebird.
The rate is from £280 pp per night including full board, drinks and safari activities.
Robin Pope Safaris has other properties in Malawi (Pumulani, Lake Malawi and Mkulumadzi, Majete Wildlife Reserve); Zambia (South Luangwa National Park and Victoria Falls, Livingstone); and in Zimbabwe (John’s Camp). Two-centre trips are a speciality and easily arranged.
