Luxury Welsh hotel Palé Hall joins Pride of Britain Hotels’ prestigious hotel collection

Pride of Britain Hotels is delighted to announce that Palé Hall in Llandderfel, North Wales, is now a member of the prestigious hotel collection.

Situated in the peaceful Dee Valley, amidst idyllic woodland, with the River Dee running through the 50-acre estate, Palé Hall is a grand, historic, and eco-friendly five AA Red Star country house retreat on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. The property’s origins are closely entwined with the Victorian-era railway boom as the house was built in 1871 as a private residence by Sir Henry Robertson, the industrialist and railway entrepreneur who set up much of Wales’ steam railway infrastructure. Palé Hall’s entrance portico even depicts a steam locomotive in its frescoed stonework.

Rich in antiques, original features and wood panelling, Palé Hall boasts 18 individually-designed and sumptuous bedrooms in the main house – including two in turrets – and an additional four garden suites within the grounds. Some rooms have views of the Berwyn Mountains and others have rolltop baths; families are welcome, and some rooms accept dogs.

Cuisine is central to a stay at Palé Hall and there are three dining spaces. The impressive Henry Robertson Dining Room has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes for its exceptional cuisine and a Michelin green star for its noted sustainable practices (the hotel has its own on-site hydroelectric plant).  Providing the perfect backdrop for afternoon tea and formal dinners, the restaurant is overseen by Head Chef Gareth Stevenson, who has devised delectable five-course and eight-course tasting menus based around the finest local and seasonal produce available. Dishes are delicately infused and influenced by flavours and cooking techniques from the Far East and Middle East. Options may include Hand dived scallop sunflower seed satay, kaffir lime, daikon, and Coed-Y-Brenin venison loin pumpkin, burnt orange, sesame glazed bacon.

For more relaxed dining, The Huntsman Bar & Bistro provides lunch and dinner alongside an all-day service of drinks and coffee. The extensive bistro menu includes favourites such as Wye Valley Asparagus and Menai Mussels and is both child and dog friendly.

The hotel’s third dining space, The Venetian, is a theatrical-inspired room where guests can dine with children of any age, from any menu, amongst a backdrop of crystal chandeliers and Venetian mirrors.  It can also seat up to 18 guests for private dining events.

Other hotel facilities include extensive grounds with a sunken garden, a resident donkey and Shetland ponies, a library lounge, badminton and croquet on the lawn, a pond (where all the fish are called Alan!), full or half-day guided fly fishing sessions, e-bike hire and walks galore.

Palé Hall is within easy reach of Mount Snowdon – the highest mountain in Wales – and picturesque Portmeirion. Visit ancient castles including Harlech, Beaumaris and Conwy, plus the coastal resorts of Llandudno and Aberdovey – and why not try a range of watersports at Bala Lake? Alternatively, visit the Llangollen Steam Railway, one of the region’s best-preserved heritage railway lines, which Palé Hall’s creator, Henry Robertson, was instrumental in creating.
