Luxurious honeymoons with a difference from TravelLocal

Our Stories
Honeymoon

For honeymooners who find the Maldives too pedestrian, the Seychelles over the top and can’t bear the thought of Italy’s crowds, TravelLocal – the ‘buy local’ expert in tailor-made holidays – has the solution. Its wealth of luxurious and imaginative honeymoon itineraries are sure to satisfy newlyweds in search of something a bit different from the norm, while still wishing to enjoy the luxuries and comforts of their post-wedding holiday.

TravelLocal links independent travellers up with tried-and-trusted travel companies around the world, enabling them to develop exciting bespoke itineraries and explore under-the-radar destinations. This not only allows travellers to access on-the-ground expertise direct from regional experts and ensures a much fairer deal for local suppliers, but also makes undiscovered gems more accessible to its UK clientele via local know-how.

From stargazing in Namibia to swimming in the Dead Sea, here are just a few examples of TravelLocal’s honeymoon suggestions, each of which can be tailored to cater to different budgets and honeymoon requirements:

NAMIBIA: Stargazing, sand boarding and hot air ballooning

Staring up at spectacular constellations and shooting stars in Namibia’s mesmerising dark skies; hot air ballooning over the Naukluft Mountains; enjoying a Champagne breakfast with views of Sossusvlei’s majestic red sand dunes: honeymooning in Namibia is certainly a feast for the senses. This two-week, self-drive tour begins in the scenic Namib-Naukluft National Park, a photographer’s paradise where clear blue skies contrast with iconic red dunes, ancient scorched trees pepper the white claypan at Dead Man’s Vlei, and oryx, springbok and ostrich wander freely. In the quirky, colonial seaside town of Swakopmund, quad-biking, canoeing and horse-riding await – plus seafood feasts – before venturing to Etosha National Park to witness the incredible wildlife – from elephants and giraffes to antelopes and much else besides – which roam freely amidst the shimmering salt flats, the savannah plains, woodlands and waterholes.
This 14-day trip costs from £3,610 pp*.

ARGENTINA: Sumptuous steaks, world-class vineyards and dramatic glaciers

From the tropical cascades of Iguazu Falls to the glaciers of Patagonia, Argentina offers such a diversity of landscape that adventurous honeymooners will be spoilt for choice on this chock-full 15-day tour of the country. Starting in the cultural hub of Buenos Aires, stay in the trendy Palermo neighbourhood filled with buzzing bars, world-class art galleries and incredible restaurants. Sample the world’s finest steaks, rich, deep red wines, and desserts made from sweet, creamy dulce de leche – one of Argentina’s specialities. In the Mendoza wine country, take a vineyard tour, taste delicious locally-produced Cabernet and Malbec, and hike the craggy peaks of Mount Aconcagua, retiring to a luxurious hotel base with sweeping views of the Andes Mountains. Time spent in bucket-list spot Iguazu will involve a full-day tour of the iconic waterfalls and the National Park’s trails, before journeying to El Calafate and Ushuaia to hike, canoe and sail through the icy wilds of Patagonia.
This 15-day trip costs from £4,540 pp*.

GUATEMALA & BELIZE: Fresh seafood, Mayan ruins and volcanic lakes

These heavenly Central American idylls also offer pristine white beaches, turquoise waters and laid-back living, but with buckets more character, authenticity and adventure than some of the more mainstream Caribbean locations which are geared up for honeymooners.

In Guatemala, roam colourful colonial cities hand-in-hand with your beloved, recline in a hammock with an ice-cold cerveza (beer) and views of volcanic lake Atitlan, and toast marshmallows over smouldering embers on a sunset walk of Pacaya Volcano. On Belize’s tiny coral island Caye Caulker, golf buggies are the only form of transport, friendly locals and travellers bond over rum cocktails on the jetty, and the beaches are lined with makeshift oil can barbecues cooking freshly-caught lobsters and crayfish.
This 14-day trip costs from £3,300 pp*.

JORDAN & ISRAEL: Ancient cities, scuba diving and Dead Sea spa treatments

Ancient, storied Jordan and Israel offer thrilling natural wonders, magical holy cities and a rich culinary heritage, ideal for culture-loving newlyweds who want more than beaches and candlelit dinners. For 19 enchanting days, explore architectural marvels at Petra and Wadi Rum, float in the emerald waters of the Dead Sea, breathe in history at the pilgrimage sites of Bethlehem and Nazareth, scuba dive in the Red Sea and take part in an Arabic cooking class, staying in a range of charming guesthouses, Bedouin camps and luxurious beachside hotels.
This 19-day trip costs from £3,620 pp*.

CAMBODIA: Luxury eco-camps, untouched islands and rooftop cocktails

For some, the ultimate honeymoon is all about plush accommodation and, for luxury-loving travellers, this 16-day Cambodia trip won’t disappoint. Moving between deluxe riverside hotels, remote beachfront villas and boutique tented safari camps, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and abundant wildlife, honeymooners will experience the very best this beautiful country has to offer.

At the luxurious Bale Hotel in Phnom Penh, enjoy panoramic views of the Mekong River, riverside pool and spa, open-air restaurant, and tranquil, frangipani-filled gardens. In Botum Sakor National Park, the Cardamom Tented Camp is dedicated to the conservation of the area, and newlyweds can hike through abandoned poaching sites and logging trails with Wildlife Alliance rangers as well as kayak through rivers and waterfalls. On the untouched paradise island of Koh Rong, stay in the five-star Royal Sands resort where individual private villas constructed from bamboo and limestone enjoy beachfront views and private pools, and snorkelling, stand up paddle boarding and fishing are the order of the day. Finally, a luxury tented safari camp near Siem Reap with a floating forest infinity pool and an onsite organic farm which supplies its own restaurant is a wonderful base from which to explore the hidden trails, jungle-clad temples and remote relics of Angkor.
This 16-day trip costs from £4,630 pp*.
