Lainston House joins Pride of Britain Hotels

Pride of Britain Hotels is delighted to announce that Lainston House, in Hampshire, has become the latest hotel to join the UK’s 50-strong luxury hotel collection.
Located just four miles from the historic city of Winchester, the handsome 17th century hotel sits in 63 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland. Its imposing façade houses lavish reception rooms with roaring log fires and wood panelling. There are fifty rooms and suites, many with huge windows overlooking the gardens, antique furniture, roll-top baths and velvet armchairs.
Fine-dining restaurant The Avenue takes its name from the magnificent mile-long avenue of lime trees which it overlooks – said to be the longest in the UK. Alongside a six-course tasting menu and vegetarian tasting menu, à la carte options include dishes such as Venison loin with parsnip, quince, cappuccino and garlic, and Crown prince ravioli with chestnut, pear, rosemary goat’s curd and nori.
The Avenue is overseen by Executive Chef Phil Yeomans and also offers a Chef’s Table experience, allowing diners to observe the action in the kitchen while enjoying a surprise tasting menu of six seasonal dishes, each of which is presented and described by the chefs themselves.
The Cedar Bar is ideal for snacks, light bites and drinks. The ornate panelling was carved by English sculptor Grinling Gibbons from a cedar tree which fell in the grounds during the Great Storm of the 1930s. The bar also serves an indulgent afternoon tea, with delicious sandwiches and sweet treats served on a tiered cake stand.
Lainston House is also home to Season cookery school, located in a beautifully- converted well house within the grounds. With state-of-the-art kitchen facilities, a modern dining space and a kitchen garden with a pizza oven, there is a varied calendar of cookery courses from which to choose, including Dishes from the Sea, Meze and Tapas and half-day Little Fingers courses for children to enjoy, along with an accompanying adult.
The hotel’s Falconry experience allows guests to meet its resident birds of prey, including a Chilean Blue Buzzard-Eagle named Lula, a Harris Hawk named Shadow and five fluffy owls. Alongside a half-day Falconry experience, the hotel offers birds of prey walks around the grounds and photography excursions.
Guests of Lainston House can also take part in an array of country pursuits, including clay pigeon shooting and fishing, and the hotel has partnered with Cycle Tours UK to provide guests with bicycles to explore the local area.
General Manager, Sunil Kanjanghat, says: “Lainston House is delighted to be joining Pride of Britain’s prestigious collection of hotels. We are based in a beautiful part of the Hampshire countryside, yet close enough to explore the delights of historic Winchester.”
Peter Hancock, Chief Executive, Pride of Britain Hotels, says: “It gives us great pleasure to welcome Lainston House to Pride of Britain Hotels – the hotel will be an asset to the collection.”
