Hoshino Resorts, the leading Japan-based hospitality brand with a contemporary take on the traditional Japanese ryokan (inn), is delighted to announce the re-opening of KAI Tsugaru on 1st April, 2019.

KAI Tsugaru is located in the Owani hot springs area of Tsugaru in Aomori Prefecture, 50 minutes by train from Aomori Airport, a 90-minute flight north of Tokyo.

Surrounded by cherry blossom and cedar trees, the 41-bedroom property features stylish guest rooms with shoji (paper screens), a new Tsugaru Seasonal Water Garden lit by atmospheric lanterns, and apple-scented hot spring baths with views from large light-filled windows overlooking the Japanese gardens.

The hotel is passionate about showcasing local artwork such as Tsugaru vidro (coloured glassware) and, each night, live shamisen music is played for guests.  During the day, guests can enjoy Japanese tea or fresh juices in the peaceful Yuagari lounge and, by night, the locally-brewed sake may be sampled.

Lead-in price: Stay overnight at KAI Tsugaru from ¥42,000/£286 per room/ ¥21,000/ £143 per person per night on a half-board basis (two sharing; two meals pp are included). KAI amenities provided for guests for the duration of their stay include a casual kimono (yukata) and a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth (furoshiki) from which to make a bag to carry belongings.

Notes to Editors

The origins of the Hoshino hospitality brand started with the opening of the first hot spring resort in 1914. The company was rebranded as Hoshino Resorts by current CEO Yoshiharu Hoshino in 1995, and now includes four hospitality brands under its parent company:

  • HOSHINOYA (Hoshino Resorts’ flagship luxury brand)
  • KAI, (authentic hot spring ryokan/inns)
  • RISONARE (family friendly)
  • OMO (urban-based mid-range hotels), together with other unique lodgings.

Hoshino Resorts operates 38 properties (35 in Japan, plus one each in Bali, Tahiti and, from June 2019, Taiwan).
