holidaycottages.co.uk reveals the five most popular spots for spring and introduces its Great British Coast hub, helping customers make the very most of their coastal escapes in 2022

7 March 2022

With spring just around the corner, is there anywhere better to welcome in longer, lighter and warmer days than on the British coast? Any lingering lethargy from the darker months is swiftly swept away by the gentle lapping of waves, the refreshing sea breeze, the taste and smell of salt in the air, and the unspoilt magnificence of the views. And, with over 11,000 miles of spectacular coastline in the UK, there’s certainly plenty of it to enjoy.

Even more aware of the UK’s coastal appeal than most is self-catering specialist holidaycottages.co.uk, which has over 3,500 properties located within five miles of a beach, each offering a cosy, homely base from which to explore the local shores… and to relax in at the end of an exhilarating day of fresh air and fun.

Based on searches on its website since the New Year,  holidaycottages.co.uk has found that Tenby (pictured below), in Pembrokeshire, is the most sought-after coastal town for a spring holiday in the UK, closely followed by Seahouses in Northumberland and Bude in Cornwall. Devon takes two spots in the top five, with Appledore and Brixham both proving to be very popular with holidaycottages.co.uk customers looking for an early seaside getaway this year.

With demand for UK coastal breaks up over 40% compared to 2020, holidaycottages.co.uk has created the Great British Coast hub, providing an invaluable source of information for anyone considering a holiday by the sea in 2022.

The Great British Coast hub features:

Matt Brayley, Marketing Director at holidaycottages.co.uk, comments: “More than ever, people are feeling the draw of being by the sea and realising that you don’t need to travel far to experience the benefits of a revitalising coastal break. Here in the UK, we’re lucky enough to have an amazing coastline full of beautiful beaches and secluded coves, which offer something for all our guests. We’ve created the Great British Coast hub to make planning the perfect 2022 coastal holiday an even easier and more enjoyable experience this year.”

holidaycottages.co.uk has a coastal property to suit everyone: from cosy seaside cottages suitable for couples and singles, to larger coastal boltholes that are fantastic to share with family or friends – plus, of course, their beloved dogs. Here is a selection of holiday homes in holidaycottages.co.uk’s top five coastal towns that currently have availability, either for a short break or longer stay, between March and May. Properties are getting snapped up fast though, so be sure to book soon…

TENBY, WALES – beach days and movie nights
Min Y Mor (sleeps six) is an extremely stylish mansion apartment in the medieval walled seaside town of Tenby, famous for its brightly hued houses. Just yards from the sweeping sands of Paragon Beach, families can delight in days of sandcastle building and sea paddling, while a boat trip to the beautiful monastic island of Caldey will be an added treat. Come the evening (or inclement days), family film nights are enhanced by a projection screen with Netflix and Apple TV. And, once the children have climbed into their cabin bunk beds (where a ladder leads to a play area), grown-ups can treat themselves to a soak in the copper slipper bath. A seven-night self-catering stay this spring costs from £251 pp (£1,503 total).

Berwick-upon-Tweed to the north and Alnwick Castle, with its pretty market town to the south, are also within easy reach by car. A seven-night self-catering stay this spring costs from £210 pp (£1,260 total).
