Four fabulous pre-Christmas stays with Elite Hotels
Enjoy a festive pre-Christmas two-night autumn stay – or perhaps visit for an indulgent lunch, afternoon tea or dinner – with Elite Hotels, a privately-owned collection of four luxury hotels in prime locations across the South of England.
Located in Bedfordshire, Hampshire and East Sussex, all of the hotels fall into Tier two, allowing those from the same household to enjoy an overnight stay or dining experience together.
The four pre-Christmas Autumn Escape stays, all valid until 20th December, are as follows:
Less than an hour north of London, Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa, on the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire borders, is a Grade I-listed mansion house hotel; HM The Queen and Prince Philip spent part of their honeymoon there, and many VIPs – and film stars – have stayed. The impressive Christmas decorations alone will certainly put you in a festive mood! Dine under glittering chandeliers in the Wernher Restaurant, play a round of golf on a championship course (without bunkers), enjoy use of the hotel’s bicycles to explore the extensive grounds (all 1,065 acres!), book a spa treatment or two and swim in the indoor pool, housed within the converted stable block.
The Autumn Escape is priced from £396 total/ £198 pp (two sharing) and includes two nights’ accommodation, cream tea on arrival, two-course dinner on one evening in Adam’s Brasserie, full English breakfast, use of the leisure facilities and complimentary room upgrade. Call Luton Hoo on 01582 734437 (www.lutonhoo.co.uk).
Sitting within 186 acres of Ashdown Forest, Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club, in East Sussex, is the perfect base for a cosy break, with walking and cycling trails on its doorstep. Dine in the hotel’s new Forest Brasserie, overlooking the 18-hole par-3 golf course, swim indoors or enjoy a spa treatment; take tea beside a roaring log fire and sample award-winning cuisine in the Anderida Restaurant.

Tylney Hall Hotel & Gardens, in Hampshire, is a grand Victorian Grade II listed house set in grounds of 66 acres, featuring Gertrude Jekyll-designed water gardens of national significance. The spacious public rooms include a lounge with an ornate gilded ceiling originally housed in a Florentine palace, cosy open fires and the longest uninterrupted view in Hampshire, flanked by the estate’s towering Redwoods. Dine in the candlelit wood-panelled Oak Room and pre-book a time slot in the indoor pool.

Head to the Sussex seaside and base yourself at The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, East Sussex – the UK’s only five-star seafront hotel – which manages to be impressive yet relaxed in equal measure. The hotel is moments from the beach and the Victorian pier, and close to the start of the South Downs Way for bracing winter walks. Or why not enjoy the indoor pool and gym or book a spa treatment?
