Five-star Seaham Hall introduces summer weddings with a difference for 2019
It’s unlikely that Seaham Hall requires an introduction. This glorious Georgian manor house, situated on County Durham’s heritage coast, is one of the UK’s most special and sought-after wedding venues.
New for 2019: Couples keen on having a ‘destination wedding’, yet mindful of the logistics and costs involved for their guests, can have the best of both worlds.
- Outdoor wedding ceremonies, overlooking the beach
- Summer BBQ weddings
From the grandest of society weddings to more intimate affairs, Seaham Hall has provided an enchanting backdrop for some fine weddings and ceremonies, including the marriage of the great romantic poet, Lord Byron. Dating back to 1791, the hotel is steeped in history and features luxury interiors, picture-perfect gardens and indulgent dining. Plus, importantly, the hotel has a strict policy of only hosting one wedding per day.
In the last 12 months alone Seaham Hall has been named:
- Bronze Winner of the Hotel of the Year in VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence
- One of Britain’s 30 Most Romantic Hotels in The Times
- One of the Best 25 Luxury Hotels in the UK in Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award 2018
- Best Spa in the North East at the Good Spa Guide Awards
- The only spa in the North to be classified by the Good Spa Guide as ‘Five Bubble Luxury’
Wedding settings at Seaham Hall include:
The Ballroom – featuring floor-to-ceiling Georgian windows which offer a sweeping view of the Durham coastline, this stunning space can seat up to 120 guests for a ceremony.
The Courtyard – a gorgeous atrium space with a vaulted glass ceiling, marble floors and a winding staircase to make a memorable entrance – room for 90 guests.
The Terrace – with 37 acres of charming grounds and coastal views, it features landscaped gardens, lily ponds and wild woodlands for an unforgettable drinks reception. A new pagoda on the terrace, next to the beach huts, is adorned with fairy lights, making it a perfect place for ceremonies or for a drinks reception.
Romance at Seaham Hall
The hotel has just 21 suites including the ultra-romantic Ada Lovelace Suite – a wonderful reminder and celebration of the Hall’s fascinating history and links with Lord Byron, who got married at Seaham Hall in 1815. Their daughter, Ada Lovelace, born in the same year, has provided the inspiration for the grand suite with split-level rooms, featuring a chic glazed bathroom and mirrored boudoir, an elevated sleeping mezzanine overlooking a generous lounge with a bathing deck, and two mischievously-placed slipper baths which sit in front of the stunning Georgian windows overlooking the Seaham Estate and the sea beyond.
Junior suite doubles cost from £195 (two sharing), including breakfast and full use of the spa from noon on the day of arrival to noon on the day of departure. Call Seaham Hall’s expert team on 0191 516 1400 to book, or visit www.seaham-hall.co.uk.
Seaham Hall is under three hours by train from central London, and by car is just 20 minutes from Durham, 40 minutes from Newcastle, 90 minutes from Edinburgh and less than three hours from Manchester. The hotel’s close proximity to Newcastle is also ideal for those travelling from international destinations, via Newcastle airport and/or the North East Ferry Port.
