Explore Wild Alaska with wildlife holiday specialist Naturetrek
If BBC One’s latest natural history triumph, Wild Alaska Live (catch up on iPlayer here), has whetted your appetite for the immense vistas and unrivalled wildlife-spotting opportunities of North America’s remote 49th State, why not create your own unforgettable experiences with specialist tour operator, Naturetrek, choosing from two tempting Alaska itineraries, each led by expert naturalist guides?
Alaska – Spring in Prince William Sound is a 14-day holiday that starts in the small coastal community of Cordova, your visit timed to coincide with the northbound migration of thousands of waders, divers and waterfowl in early May. The group (of up to ten people, plus guides) then boards the MV Discovery, a small 12-berth motor yacht chartered exclusively for Naturetrek clients, to explore the wonder of Prince William Sound on a seven-night cruise. These sheltered waters are home to families of Orcas, Humpback Whales, Steller’s Sea Lions, playful pods of Dall Porpoises and over 4,500 Sea Otters whilst, on land, roam Black and Grizzly Bears, Mountain Goats and Moose.
Departing 4 May 2018, the price is from £8,895 pp (two sharing) including flights (Heathrow), all transfers, 12 nights’ accommodation (seven on board the MV Discovery, three in Cordova and two in Anchorage) most meals, and all excursions and activities. Two overnight flights.
Venture to Alaska – America’s Last Frontier on a 14-day journey from Alaska’s southern coastline to the shores of the Arctic Ocean, through taiga forest and open tundra, past snow-capped mountains and towering glaciers. Take a boat trip into the Kenai Fjords National Park, explore the extensive spruce forests that surround the Seward Peninsula, fly north to Barrow (the northerly-most point in Alaska and a land of perpetual summer daylight) and view the spectacular peak of ‘Denali’ (Mount McKinley). Wildlife highlights are likely to include Black and Grizzly Bears, Caribou, Moose, Dall Sheep, Sea Otter, Humpback Whale and Orca; ornithology enthusiasts will enjoy spotting seabirds such as Horned and Tufted Puffins, as well as Kittlitz’s and Ancient Murrelets.
Departing 15 June 2018, the price is from £6,995 pp (two sharing) including flights (Heathrow), all transfers, 12 nights’ accommodation (three in Anchorage, two each in Barrow, Fairbanks and Seward, three in Denali National Park, most meals, and all excursions and activities. One overnight flight.
