Transforming cities across the UK since 2009 when the first light spectacle took place in Durham, Lumiere 2019 is expected to be the most astonishing yet to mark its 10th anniversary, drawing over 200,000 people from across the world.

Lumiere (14 – 17 November) invites local and international artists to create works that reimagine familiar buildings and public spaces, changing the way we experience our urban surroundings. In previous years the festival’s large-scale installations have included an interactive projection lighting up the vaulted ceiling of Durham Cathedral, a huge bank of light bulbs in the city centre, light transmitted through fog, and multi-coloured patterns cast through a triangular prism onto the River Wear.  Smaller-scale gems have included an illuminated park bench and neon bikes.
