The Emerald (five houses, sleeping between two and six) is an award-winning boutique collection of hi-spec, super-insulated cedar-clad houses set in a fabulously tranquil location near Falmouth. Lower Chaddlehanger (sleeps nine), in Tavistock, is a group of three delightful cottages, located in rolling Devon farmland in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a mile from Dartmoor. They can be rented as single cottages or as a whole, perfect for a family gathering. All three cottages are decorated with real flair with use of designer fabrics and up-to-the minute fittings. Home-cooked meals can be ordered in advance, cycling or riding can be arranged and there’s even a ‘pillow menu’ to choose from! A week’s stay costs from £97 pp (£870 total).

Mewstone View (sleeps eight) in Wembury is a super-sleek, sea-facing dwelling, minutes from Wembury beach, not far from Plymouth and Dartmoor. Stay scrumptious this Christmas – Somerset for six

Scrumpy Cottage (sleeps four), near Ilminster, is a refurbished period property with a fresh interior and a wood burner. Accessed via your own little bridge, the cottage has a tennis court, a large lawn, a playroom and plenty of farm action.
