Celebrate the big 2-0 at historic Nsefu Camp, Zambia

Our Stories
Nsefu Camp

Robin Pope Safaris marks 20 years of running Zambia’s longest-established camp with an exclusive 20th anniversary itinerary.

The intimate and isolated Nsefu Camp (formerly Northern Rhodesia) consists, as it has for the past 69 years, of six traditional rondavels overlooking a sweeping bend in the Luangwa River. This special location offers visitors a truly remote wilderness experience, with boundless views over the Luangwa and its game-rich lagoon; guests are immersed in the region’s natural surroundings without even leaving camp.

Nsefu first opened in 1950 as temporary accommodation for Rhodesian Game Department officials to use when on duty. Since then the camp has survived multiple changes of management, a fire, additions and renovations, finally emerging as the world-class camp it is today.

Robin Pope Safari’s six-night 20th anniversary trips give guests the chance to experience the entire Nsefu region. Start with a two-night stay at Nsefu Camp, ‎exploring the outstanding Luangwa Valley and its vast variety of wildlife – from elephant to lion, leopard to giraffe, plus birdlife aplenty – during game drives through the unspoilt wilderness.

Days three and four offer the opportunity to watch the spectacular sunrise over breakfast camping in the Luangwa Bush. Days are spent discovering the secrets of the bush and walking around the lagoons and waterholes of the Luangwa to spot a wide variety of wild animals up close, before returning to camp for sundowners with a view, delicious food and stories around the fire as a blanket of stars appears in the night sky.

The final two nights are spent at Tena Tena, six spacious private tents located amidst a grove of mahogany trees, with a choice of taking to four wheels or sticking to two legs to explore more of the Luangwa’s flora and fauna, or simply soaking up the views across the Luangwa River from camp.

There are only three departures for this exclusive trip:

  • 31 May 2019 – led by Kanga Banda
  • 28 June 2019 – led by Chilumba Lungu
  • 26 August 2019 – led by Chilumba Lungu

The Nsefu @ 20 celebration package costs from £3,191 pp (two sharing), including six nights’ accommodation (two nights at Nsefu Camp, two nights of Luangwa Bush Camping and two nights at Tena Tena), all safari activities with expert guides, all meals, laundry service, internal flights and airport transfers. International flights and visa costs are additional.
