Celebrate a cosy coastal Christmas at the Alexandra, Lyme Regis

Said to be one of the most beautiful hotels on the British coast, the Alexandra in Lyme Regis sits on the world-renowned South West Coastal Path and benefits from stunning year-round views of Dorset’s Jurassic coastline. Christmas at the chic 23-bedroom boutique hotel is an elegant yet comfortable affair: stylish decorations deck the halls, surroundings are sumptuously cosy, the award-winning food is suitably delicious, and the 18th-century Old Chapel is lit up by a giant twinkling Christmas tree.
This year’s festive celebrations will include:
Wreath-Making Workshop – £55 pp in The Old Chapel (12 and 14 December)
The Alexandra’s Georgian chapel is the perfect setting for creating a special hand-made Christmas wreath and, this December, there are two opportunities to do so. Alongside skilled professionals, use fresh foliage, scented pine cones, beautiful organza, luscious berries and many more festive trimmings to decorate a specially-designed wreath, just perfect to welcome in the season or to give as a glorious gift. Sessions will run from 10am – 1pm on 12 and 14 December and are priced at £55 pp, including all materials, tea, coffee and mince pies.
Christmas Afternoon Tea – from £19.95 pp in the Ammonite restaurant
The Alexandra has always been known for serving a fabulous afternoon tea and, this Christmas-time, it will be offering daily festive-themed afternoon teas, featuring special Christmassy goodies such as spiced chocolate macaroons, mince-pie scented scones, mini Christmas puddings, mulled berry trifle, mini mince pies and cranberry and orange fudge, alongside a finger sandwich selection and a choice of loose-leaf teas or Fair-Trade coffee. The festive afternoon tea is priced at £19.95 pp (£29.95 pp with a glass of house Champagne) and is served daily throughout December in the Ammonite restaurant in the new Orangery.
Festive Christmas Lunch – from £25.95 pp for two courses
From 1 December and throughout the festive period, gather friends and family for a festive lunch in the hotel’s elegant restaurant. Delicious dishes will include smoked duck breast with roasted fig, Chesil Beach Smokehouse Oak Smoked Salmon with cucumber vodka jelly and pickled cucumber, roasted Cornish monkfish wrapped in smoked pancetta, and roasted Devonshire bronze turkey. A two-course lunch is priced at £25.95 and a three-course lunch is £29.95.
Family Film Night – £7 per adult / £5 per child in The Old Chapel
The inviting candlelit Old Chapel will provide the glorious setting for a magical film night that is sure to get the whole family in the Christmas spirit in the run-up to the big day. The funny and heartwarming family favourite, Arthur Christmas (2011) will keep even little ones entertained and the grown-ups can marvel at the beautiful Christmas tree that takes centre stage in the stunning Georgian chapel, while enjoying something festive from the hotel’s fully-stocked bar. The film showing will start at 6.30pm on Saturday 22 December, with tickets priced at £7 per adult and £5 per child, including popcorn. A children’s pre-show supper will be served from 5pm.
Indulgent Three-Night Christmas Break – from £698 pp
Arriving to a warming fire on Christmas Eve, settle into a relaxing festive stay in the homely surrounds of the Alexandra this Christmas. Step into the candlelit Georgian chapel for carols, poems and prose around the magnificent tree, followed by a Champagne and canapé reception in the welcoming bar and sitting room. A sumptuous four-course dinner will follow, with local churches close by for those wishing to attend Midnight Mass, and mince pies and mulled wine served upon return.
Awake to a Christmas Day morning of breakfasting in bed on smoked salmon and Bucks Fizz, before fireside boardgames or a coastal stroll and a traditional five-course Christmas lunch, beginning with a glass of Kir Royale. The hotel pastry chef’s handmade mince pies and crackers complete the picture. On Christmas night, a light buffet supper will be served.
Following a full English breakfast, Boxing Day can be spent exploring bustling Lyme Regis, where the quaint lanes will provide a delightfully festive atmosphere and traditional feel. The Boxing Day evening begins with a glass of Furleigh Estate wine, before indulging in the chef’s carefully-created five-course black tie dinner. The following morning, a full English breakfast will be served before the hotel team bids guests a fond farewell to conclude a fantastic festive stay. The three-night Christmas break (arriving 24 December) is priced from £698 pp (two sharing), including three nights’ accommodation with breakfast, Champagne and canapé reception, traditional five-course Christmas lunch and three dinners.
