Bringing the Azores even closer to home with Sunvil

New direct BA flights to this magical island archipelago from summer 2022
Leading tour operator to the Azores, Sunvil (www.sunvil.co.uk) has welcomed this week’s announcement by British Airways to add the islands of São Miguel and Terceira to its short-haul programme for next summer, bringing the enchanting Atlantic archipelago within even easier reach for UK travellers. The new direct flights, which will depart weekly from London Heathrow, begin on 2 July 2022 for São Miguel (until 3 September) and on 10 July 2022 for Terceira (until 28 August).
Chris Wright, MD of Sunvil, comments:
“Since first discovering the delights of the Azores for ourselves back in 1990, Sunvil has been one of the leading promoters of responsible tourism to what is, quite frankly, one of the last paradises on earth. These new BA flights will give us even greater flexibility to create tailor-made itineraries for summer 2022, enabling our clients to experience the beauty and tranquillity of the islands for themselves, whether for the very first time or as a return visitor.”
The Azores archipelago is made up nine distinct – yet equally mesmerising – islands, set in the Atlantic Ocean between Portugal (1,500 km), of which they are part, and North America (3,900 km). At one time thought to be part of the legendary lost continent of Atlantis, they were discovered in the 15th century by Portuguese navigators en route to the New World and became the link between Europe and the Americas. Today, they offer an array of unforgettable holiday experiences, including whale and dolphin watching, self-guided nature walks, fascinating UNESCO sites, dark sand beaches, geothermally-heated pools, glorious gardens (both wild and cultivated), fabulous food – such as the local speciality dish cozido, which is lowered into volcanic steam vents to cook for six hours – and excellent local wines.
Sunvil offers an extensive range of affordable, tailor-made holidays to the Azores, from family activity holidays and whale watching to self-guided walking and volcano tours, plus multi-island itineraries that give clients the chance to experience the entire archipelago.

When I first started out travel writing, twenty years ago, I was writing a weekly round-up for The Independent. The first PR agency I ever tapped into for their clients' holiday ideas was Travel PR; they were always full of great suggestions for the column and responded quickly. Over the years, I've worked with them on many occasions and their close association with AITO has always paid dividends. Nothing has changed; some of the best story ideas I get herald from them, and their response time remains very speedy. They are a pleasure to work with.
