On 27 April 2018, Kuthengo Camp – four spacious, extremely comfortable and authentic safari tents – will open to guests. Hidden amid Fever Trees and Baobabs, and situated on a large open plain stretching towards the glorious Shire River, each en suite abode has an outdoor shower, a bathtub, double basins, and state-of-the-art ‘evening breeze air-conditioned beds, plus a private deck (the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner whilst watching herds of waterbuck).
Liwonde is a virtually untouched national park which promises adventurous game drives and walking safaris and peaceful boat cruises. The diverse environments – riverine, grassland and Mopane Woodlands – are home to hippos, crocodiles, elephant, buffalo, endangered black rhino and antelope.
Cheetah has recently been reintroduced to Liwonde, thanks to conservation efforts in the area, and there are plans to reintroduce lions as well, restoring it to a Big Five park. Liwonde is also a birder’s paradise, with nearly 300 species, including the Böhm’s Bee-eater, Livingstone’s Flycatcher and Lillian’s lovebird.
Rate is from £280 pp per night including full board, drinks and safari activities.
