Reasons to go to Greece in May with Sunvil

April 23, 2019 | Sunvil Holidays

Savour Greece at its best in May, when beautiful spring flowers come into view, bougainvillea blooms and fresh green vegetation still lingers. Enjoy uncrowded cultural sites, food and music festivals, mild sea temperatures and the best tables at tavernas (except at weekends, when the locals dine out). Stargaze by night to behold the Milky Way and a myriad constellations in the clear skies.

Here are Sunvil’s top picks for May…

– Foodies can celebrate on Corfu –

This most northerly of the Ionian islands is the greenest and, perhaps surprisingly, one of the most traditional of them all. From 8 -12 May the Corfu Food & Wine Festival takes place to celebrate the gastronomy of Corfu and the Ionian islands. Events include tasting tours, wine and beer tasting and speciality dishes in local restaurants.

Stay with Sunvil at the Papoulas Apartments, Liapades, just a 35-minute drive from Corfu Town and a short walk to the pretty village and picturesque sand/shingle beach, where you can snorkel in the crystal-clear water.

From £687 pp (two sharing) for a seven-night, self-catering stay, with flights and transfers.

– Jazz fans will fall for Kardamili –

Kardamili, on the Mani Peninsula of mainland Greece, will host its well-respected International Jazz Festival from 4 – 11 May, featuring jazz musicians from around the globe performing at Kardamili’s cafés, bars and restaurants in the village. Where better to enjoy jazz, while taking in the beautiful scenery and warm spring sunshine in this prettiest of locations?

Stay with Sunvil at the private Kastro Houses, Kardamili, a group of detached stone houses situated amongst an olive grove and just 500m from Kardamili village / five minutes from the beach and five minutes from Ancient Kardalmili, too.

From £922 pp (two sharing) for a seven-night, self-catering stay, with flights and transfers.

– Get away from saturated Santorini in Folegandros –

Avoid the crush of Santorini (70% full in May!) and venture to Folegandros in the Cyclades, similar in landscape, with rugged terrain, whitewashed clifftop villages and excellent beaches. Just one hour by high speed ferry from Santorini, this little island is accessible yet blissfully quiet.

Stay with Sunvil at the modern Folegandros Apartments in a central but quiet location, just a couple of minutes’ walk from capital Chora’s central square, designed around fragrant Mediterranean gardens and with a pool area as its centrepiece.

From £1,055 pp (two sharing) for a seven-night, self-catering stay, with flights and transfers.
