Wonderful Workshops in Rajasthan with TransIndus


TransIndus has launched its Wonderful Workshops in Rajasthan programme for 2017. This series of week-long classes is led by local artisans in concert with international artists and allows attendees to immerse themselves in the whole process of creation. Scour local markets and bazaars for raw materials, live and work with local people and enjoy a cultural programme including guided walks, virtuoso performances in the evenings and an exhibition of all the work created by participants.

The workshops on offer are as follows:

Mud-resist Block Prints & Indigo Dyes

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALearn the techniques of dhabu (mud-resist) printing and indigo dyeing with a wide range of traditional wood blocks and vegetable dyes and pigments such as indigo, pomegranate, turmeric and kassis.

Sparkling Surfaces

Create stunning objets d’art and jewellery, having sourced many of the materials in the old city markets. Learn traditional and modern decorative techniques, including mosaic, gilding and sculpting.



Stitches of the DesertTransindus - Workshops Rajasthan

Learn about the unique decorative stitchery typical of Rajasthan, including cutwork, gota pathi and rare examples of surface embellishment, using a variety of threads, mirrors, sequins and other materials you acquire at local bazaars.

Indian Miniature Painting

Learn how to prepare paper, to grind and mix pigments inside beautiful shells, prepare kajal for the outline and apply the base paint. Experiment with brush techniques, the application of metal foils, gold-work and burnishing to create your own exquisite work of art.

A Taste of India: Rajasthani Cooking

Learn to prepare speciality dishes based on local Indian cuisine, including Indian breads, fresh chutneys and raita, delicious dal, vegetable curries and puddings, courtesy of the ladies of the resident royal family.

Fabulous Photography

Photograph unusual locations in and around Jaipur, including traditional craftsmanship, built heritage and rural life, as well as the people of this extraordinary city. Develop the photographer’s arts of composition and ‘finding the picture’ while out on location.

The workshops run from 5th to 12th February 2017 and the price of £1,100 pp includes 4 full days (10am-4pm) and 2 half days (10am-1pm) of tuition in your chosen workshop subject and a wide-ranging cultural programme.

Take in the three key highlights of Delhi – India’s historic capital – Jaipur with its palaces and forts and Agra, home to the world’s most beautiful building, the Taj Mahal. The total cost of this double-ended trip would be from £3,205 pp, inclusive of international flights and B&B accommodation (two sharing).
