PAN Parks joins Travel PR

Travel PR is pleased to announce that it is representing the European wilderness protection organisation, PAN Parks.

Founded in 1999 by WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and Dutch tour operator, Molecaten,
PAN Parks works to protect Europe’s wilderness, the continent’s most undisturbed areas
of nature.

PAN Parks is the only European-wide organisation focusing on the protection of wilderness areas. It applies a truly integrated approach, combining wilderness protection and sustainable tourism development.

PAN Parks creates a network of European wilderness areas where natural systems of animals and plants are safe to thrive, and where people appreciate the pleasures offered by wilderness with the respect it deserves. These areas offer real wilderness with outstanding nature and high-quality tourism facilities, well balanced with wilderness protection and sustainable local development.

There are currently 11 PAN Parks across Europe, covering an area of 2,200 square km and offering a wide variety of wilderness experiences – from walking on high-elevation trails to exploring underwater, and from Mediterranean hiking to witnessing the Northern Lights near the Arctic Circle. To become a member of the network, parks have to be at least 200 square km in size with a core area of at least 100 square km that is ‘true wilderness’, ie free from man’s footprint.

Member parks include the Central Balkan National Parkin Bulgaria, Fulufjället National Park in Sweden, Majella National Park in Italy and, in Finland, the Archipelago and Oulanka National Parks.

PAN stands for Protected Area Network.
